Temporomandibular Joint "TMJ" Syndrome

IMG1262

Grinding or clenching the teeth (at night or while awake) which can refer pain into the temples, jaw, ears, cheeks, neck or skull.  In most cases, TMJ syndrome is caused by the internalization of stress.  In some cases, it is caused by occlusal disharmony (misalignment of the jaw) of congenital or traumatic (such as a car accident or blow to the jaw) origin.

Postural Distortions and Biomechanical Issues

Pelvic Distortions (anterior/posterior pelvic tilt, hyperlordosis, and rotations/twists in the pelvic girdle).  Torso distortions (anterior shoulder carriage, protracted shoulders, kyphosis, swayback, scoliosis, and rotations in the thorax).  Limb Distortions (internal/external rotations, pronation/supination, and leg length differentials).

Resolving Tissue Densities and Increasing Range of Motion

Unlock and soften tight tissues; resolve muscle spasms, sprains, strains and scar tissue; increase flexibility and range of motion.

Common Neuromusculoskeletal Disorders

Shoulder Girdle - frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, thoracic outlet syndrome,

acromioclavicular joint dysfunction, sub-acromial compression

Neck - torticollis (twisted/tipped/stiff neck), sternocliedomastoid/scalene

hypertonicity

Hand and Arm - carpel tunnel syndrome, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow),

medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow), trigger finger

Low Back and Gluteals - sciatica, piraformis syndrome, sacroiliac joint dysfunction

Foot and Ankle - Achilles tendonitis, plantar fascitis, Morton's neuroma, sprained

ankle

General - referred pain, repetitive use injuries, tendonitis, arthritis, bursitis, nerve

entrapments and ligamental dislaxity.
