Massage can be useful in treating sore or tight muscles, acute or chronic pain syndromes, specific injuries and medical conditions, stress, and restrictions or closures within the body. A massage treatment can also be a "feel good" experience. These two approaches represent the healing and nurturing components of massage therapy.
Skilled massage applications can significantly affect the following:
Muscles, fascia (connective tissue), tendons, ligaments, bones, joints, skin, glands, and organs;
The cardiovascular, respiratory, lymphatic, immune, endocrine, and digestive systems;
The nervous system, including the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system; and
Sensations, emotions, lines of force, and energy within the body.
